Alteration & dressmaking company
Welcome to Austral Alterations.
We specialise in quality garment alterations, repairs, dressmaking, and pattern making. We also do shoe repairs, and key cutting and have a dry-cleaning service. Austral Alterations was established in 1947, initially, as a shoe store and later as a clothing alterations and shoe repair business. Manet and George took over the business in February of 2008 and began expanding the range of alteration services and products offered. Items ranging from batteries, keychains, and scissors to shoelaces, and haberdashery products are now sold at Austral Alterations. In 2011, Manet and George registered the business as a proprietary limited company naming it Austral Toorak Alterations Pty Ltd. Austral has a strong base of loyal customers, not only from Toorak and neighbouring suburbs but also from the outer suburbs, rural Victoria and interstate. 1947
The Founding
Austral was founded in 1947 as a shoe shop.2008
Starting off
February 2008. Austral Alterations started under the management of Manet and George in Toorak Village.2015
Hawksburn Village
In 2015, Austral Alterations moved to Hawksburn Village.2017
Phase two
Austral Alterations opened the second shop in Kings Arcade Armadale. Initially in shop 4 later in shop 8.2023
Phase three
After a brief interval because of the pandemic between 2021-2022, in March 2023, Austral Alterations reopened in Kings Arcade in shop 2 with added services.2025
After many months of careful consideration, we reached the difficult decision to close the shop in Kings Arcade. Despite our best efforts to recruit and retain staff, ongoing shortages made it impossible to maintain the high level of service our customers expect and deserve. Alongside other operational challenges, this ultimately left us with no alternative. We are deeply grateful for your loyalty and support over the years, and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in our main shop in Hawksburn Village.
